How can it be that the season with the least amount of clothing can leave the most room for fashion mistakes? Perhaps there’s something about the heat that makes us shamelessly abandon any sensibility we would normally exercise during the rest of the year. Maybe we feel like the slowness of the season gives us permission to take a vacation from discriminating taste. Either way, big, baggy board shorts and wraparound sunglasses make one thing clear: Summer has a set of style no-nos all its own. These are the seven deadly style sins of men’s summer fashion, and lucky for you, their seasonal solutions.
The huge pockets bow out at the sides and force the shorts to sag. It’s time to try a silhouette from this century. Cuts are slimmer (like your favorite pair of jeans) and patterns range from bold plaids to seersucker; even everyday khaki is a fine choice. The secret to a great pair of men's shorts is finding ones that don’t stray away from a straight line running from hip to hem. And speaking of hems, yours should always end an inch or two above the knee.

Fact: A man’s hair is the first thing women notice. You have to have a stylish hairstyle, but the most expensive haircut in the world won’t help if you have weedlike body hair growing out of the collar of your shirt or waving at her through your nose (FYI: Nose hair isn't something just middle-aged men get -- consider yourself alerted).
We know you know that hair removal doesn’t end at shaving your face. Heck, that's why you're hesitating to pull out those muscle shirts despite how hot it is outside. However, most men still have doubts about how best to navigate body hair removal. After all, you're a man, and that just isn't a topic you bring up with, well, other men.
That's why we're here. We focus on four key areas to get rid of your excess body hair.
How to get rid of it:
Trim it: There's nothing wrong with sporting a little chest hair. To achieve your desired length, opt for an electric clipper with various attachment sizes. The advantage of trimming is that it's painless, and it will generally take a month before hair has grown back to its original length.
Get rid of it: If you've considered shaving your chest with a razor and shaving cream (a la Jerry Seinfeld), don't. Regrowth will be quick, and no man wants to be a slave to his body hair removal routine. Instead, get waxed. Contrary to popular belief, when the right wax is used (and this is certainly an argument for spending a bit more at a salon), you'll be able to survive without crying like a baby. The results of waxing will last about six weeks.
How to get rid of it: Trimming the back of your neck with an electric razor will ensure your neck hair isn't an extension of a horrendously hairy back. Alternatively, electrolysis or laser hair removal are options here: Since a small area would be the focus, it wouldn't be nearly as expensive as it would be to remove all of your chest hair, for example.
As for your ears and nose, you need to tend to the hair in these areas on a regular basis. Simply trim with an electric razor (or blade razors) when you shave in the morning.

Click here to follow AskMen Fashion on Twitter."If you sweat more than most people, consider products designed to combat this problem. These grooming products include sweat block pads, which are cloths that have been presoaked in industrial-strength antiperspirant."
As larger, hairier, more muscular beings than women, men tend to sweat a lot more. While women don’t (usually) have to consider this bodily process in relation to their wardrobe, for many men, sweat and body odor is more than an unpleasant sensation -- it can actually ruin clothes. What’s the point of shelling out big bucks for a dress shirt you love if it’s going to be stained with sweat a month later?
Luckily, we’re here to help you learn how to sweatproof your clothes so that you can go ahead and buy that shirt you had your eye on and maintain your cool this summer.
Begin with a good, heavy-duty antiperspirant during the summer months. If you don’t like the idea of a commercial antiperspirant, use a rock crystal, which is available at most health or natural food stores. Rock crystals naturally protect against bacteria and, therefore, neutralize odor from sweat. It is effective for up to 24 hours and the sticks last forever. You can also apply rock crystal sticks to any part of your body that tends to sweat a lot.
For more advice on how to sweatproof your clothes and keep yourself looking (and smelling) clean in the months ahead, read on.
Try to rotate your shoes as well so that you’re not wearing the same pair every day. Doing so gives your shoes a chance to air out, as long as you don’t bury them in the bottom of your gym bag or closet that is. Although you should avoid wearing the same shoes day after day, do change your socks daily to avoid contracting a fungal infection that thrives in moist, sweaty and bacteria-ridden conditions. Lastly, every now and again, give the inside of your shoes a quick spray with a shoe deodorizer or use an OTC foot powder to help absorb sweat.

Hey Sachin,
I live in the South and can't figure out what to wear these days. I started a new corporate job a few months ago, and while the office is nice and cool, my commute (I walk for part of it) in the heat is killing me. I get sweaty and uncomfortable, and am wondering if wearing shorts to the office is OK. What about shorts in general?
Thanks,
Jamie
I feel you, Jamie. I live in New York, and this summer's been hotter than hell. For a lot of guys, wearing shorts is up there with sandals and man bags: Once a certain line's been crossed, we feel like we're in unmanly territory. We have no reservations about wearing an adult-size version of the loose-fit cargo shorts we wore as boys, but ask us to get into something that's slimmer and falls above the knee -- ring the alarm.
Problem is, you can't roll into work in your weekend shorts. First off, what's your office dress code like? Are the other guys in your office wearing shorts? On casual Fridays? I work in a corporate area, and, honestly, I rarely see men in shorts, unless it's the odd tourist who thought Midtown East was bumping at 9:00 a.m. That doesn't mean you can't wear shorts; it just means you have to decide how comfortable you are with them.
If you've given shorts the green light, choose the right pair. A lot of retailers are now referring to the office-appropriate short as "smart shorts." Think of these as the shorts version of a suit trouser: flat-front, fits well, dark, solid color. My advice is to keep it simple: Boat shoes, like a Sperry Top-Sider, navy "smart shorts," a white polo, a navy blazer and a brown vintage leather briefcase is a stylish way to pull of shorts at the office. Finally, if you're prone to sweating, beat the heat with my tips on sweatproofing your clothes.
Hi Sachin,
I'm 22 and have really skinny legs. I'm a bit self-conscience wearing shorts. How can I pull them off?
-Steve
You should never wear shorts. Duh.
Just kidding. Of course you can wear shorts. Just as with any part of your body, legs can be downplayed. First, avoid pairing your shorts with anything that will emphasize the size of your legs, like loose-fit tees or baggy hoodies, as they will only exaggerate how skinny your legs are. This is a common mistake I see with guys -- they think they're hiding it, but the unbalanced proportions only highlight it.
Next are the shorts themselves. You might be tempted to reach for a baggier fit, but don't. Your legs will just end up looking like bean poles supporting a makeshift tent designed for a family of four. Instead, choose shorts -- and other items -- that actually fit your skinny body type, as everything will look balanced. Other things to keep in mind are to wear lighter colored shorts rather than black, because they'll only further slim you, and to choose shorts that fit just below the knee, since the more leg you show, the more you'll be highlighting them.
Hi Sachin,
I'm a musician, and my band and I are going on tour in August in the Southwest. I was wondering about some cool ways to wear shorts.
Thanks,
Leonard
I live in a neighborhood full of artists, musicians and models, and I see a lot of them wearing shorts with black worn-in rocker boots. (Something like you'd see at AllSaints Spitalfields or at John Varvatos.) Obviously this isn't something I would recommend to, say, Jamie (see question No. 1), but for your world, this makes sense. It's a cool off-duty look, and you can throw on a deconstructed blazer once the show's over and you're hanging at the bar.

Omega
On July 27th, we will see the spectacular opening of the Olympic Games in London. From that day, over 10,000 athletes and officials from over 2,000 countries will participate in this 17-day long event."While the timing was done on a one-fifth of a second, athletes were obviously also dependent on the flexible fingers of the judges. Unthinkable today!"
This will be the 25th time that Omega takes care of the official timekeeping. (We're not talking about the the large digital displays that show the results, but the equipment that does the actual timing during the games.)
Eighty years ago, Omega used 30 mechanical chronographs to time the performances of the athletes. All these chronographs were chronometer certified to make sure they were accurate enough. While the timing was done to one-fifth of a second, athletes were obviously also dependent on the flexible fingers of the judges. Unthinkable today!
The biggest breakthrough for Omega's Olympic timekeeping was in 1948, when it introduced the cellular photoelectric eye (what later was referred to as Photosprint) to time the Winter Games in St. Moritz. Together with the British Racing Finish Recording Company, Omega started working on the use of the “Magic Eye,” a photofinish camera that recorded speed and images. The Olympic Games started using the Magic Eye in 1948, during the Summer Games in London.
During those years, Omega kept putting effort in the research and development of timekeeping equipment. This resulted in a new version of the Magic Eye, renamed the Photosprint. In 1952, it started using the Photosprint and was capable of showing a hundredth of a second below the images of athletes crossing the finish line.
Perhaps the most well-known and most visible timekeeping innovation that Omega came up with is the Swim-O-Matic. Swimmers need to tap the touch pad themselves, thus eliminating poolside timekeepers. The initial Swim-O-Matic was invented in 1956, but touch pads were only introduced by Omega in 1968 (but used for the first time during the 1972 Olympic Games).
Omega's Scan-O-Vision is another invention from Switzerland for the Olympic Games. It measures speed-skating times to a thousandth of a second by combining the digital images of finishing and the exact time in a single document. This was introduced during the Winter Games in Albertville, 1992.
In 2000, Omega introduced OmegaTiming.com, which enables you to witness the timing of the Games live. Within a few seconds, all information about athletes and their times are displayed, including images and rankings.
During the last 10 years, Omega refined most of these inventions and made many improvements using high-speed cameras, GPS devices on athletes and an electronic start system that makes it possible to quickly identify false starts. Next Page >>

Sean Connery’s suits. Ursula Andress’ bikini. Daniel Craig’s trunks.
James Bond’s been at fashion’s forefront ever since he first swaggered onto the casino tables at the start of Dr. No -- even surviving Roger Moore’s penchant for safari jackets.
To celebrate the spy’s half-centenary of setting styles, 007’s production studio, Eon, has created Designing 007 -- Fifty Years of Bond Style, which opens today at London’s Barbican Centre.
On the other side of a gun-barrel-shaped tunnel, the exhibition is a truly immersive experience in Bond. Visitors walk through the iconic costumes sets, props (Jaws’ teeth), models and design sketches -- all direct from Eon Production’s secret archive warehouse.
It’s curated by Oscar-winning costume designer Lindy Hemming -- who not only outfits Bond but also Batman -- and fashion historian Bronwyn Cosgrave.
We asked both to talk us through Bond’s top five most iconic looks.
Pictured Here:
The Tux: Sean Connery in Dr. No (1962)
“It’s the male equivalent of a Chanel suit,” says Bronwyn Cosgrave of the simple, classic cut that’s known as the Conduit, after the location of Connery’s tailor, Anthony Sinclair, in Mayfair. The tux’s turned-back silk collars were directly inspired by the way Bond’s creator, Ian Fleming, wore his. They were also the world’s first glimpse at a cinematic icon.

High-performance watches? Yes, high-performance watches! Think of the Lamborghinis, Ferraris, Aston Martins and Bugattis of the watch industry. Like high-performance supercars, they’re mostly handmade, highly technical, innovative and push the frontier of what’s possible.
A high-performance supercar brings you from A to B, just like your own Ford Fiesta or Citroen C1. The same goes for high-performance watches. They indicate time like any other watch. However, they are as cool, beautiful, innovative, desirable and admirable as the high-performance supercars, and created by the very best watchmakers. Let’s take a look at Christophe Claret’s new X-TREM-1, a breathtaking example of high-performance watchmaking.
A watch is a small mechanical wonder. In order to function properly, its tiny parts work together within the tiniest tolerances. Not surprisingly, many of those tiny metal parts are sensitive to magnetism. Naturally, the last thing you want to do is to hold your watch next to a magnet. Christophe Claret disagrees on this point, however. He even uses magnets to indicate the time in his newest timepiece, the X-TREM-1.
All mechanical watches work in more or less the same way. First of all, there’s a power source, called the main spring, that resides inside the main spring barrel. Due to its nature, the spring wants to unwind as fast as it can -- kind of like the wind-up cars you played with when you were a kid.
Connected to the main spring barrel is a gear, and after that, some more gears, called the gear train, and, ultimately, the escapement. The escapement is incredibly important in mechanical watches, as it prevents the main spring from unwinding all at once. It also determines to a large degree how precise a watch is.
When the escapement is inside a rotating cage, it is called a tourbillon. A tourbillon was developed to overcome gravitational influences on the incredibly tiny and fragile parts of the escapement. Despite the reality that a tourbillon has no real function in a wristwatch, it is still considered to be a pinnacle of watchmaking. The X-TREM-1 is more than a tourbillon watch.
While normal watches have an hour and minute hand to indicate the time, the Christophe Claret has no hands at all. Time is indicated by two small hollow metal balls (spheres) that move up and down in sapphire crystal tubes. Inside the watch are two magnets, moving up and down to make sure the metal balls move inside these sapphire crystal tubes. Yes, magnets in a mechanical movement! The one thing that every watchmaker thought was impossible has been realized by Christophe Claret.
The two magnets are focused outward toward the metal balls in the sapphire crystal tubes. The gears in the movement move the magnets up and down to indicate the correct time. Because the spheres are hollow, they are much lighter and the magnet doesn’t have to be too strong to keep them aside the magnets.
The hour can be read from the indication track beside the sapphire crystal tube with the metal sphere on the left, while the minutes are on the right side of the watch. The tourbillon can be used as second hand, because it also makes one full rotation a minute.
Taken as a whole, this watch does what a watch should do: It indicates the time. The engine that makes time telling happen is so far from any run-of-the-mill mechanical movement that it has been made in extreme limited numbers and mainly by hand. Like a Ferrari or a Bugatti, it takes a lot of time to build one by hand, and only a few of them are being made. The Christophe Claret X-TREM-1 is an example of a true high-performance watch.

Guys, let’s face it: When it comes to weddings, it’s all about her. From the rehearsal dinner to the reception to the exotic honeymoon locale, we’ve got little say. And then, of course, there’s the dress -- perhaps the only thing anyone cares about. After all, even if the salmon is bland, the bridesmaids are drunk and the band plays "Sweet Caroline" a few too many times, everyone will look back and think about that dress. So what’s in it for us? In short, not much unless you select your suit wisely and squeeze it for all it’s worth. Lucky for you, we know just how to do that." An inexpensive but impeccably cut suit will look like a million bucks. The same can’t be said for a pricey, ill-fitting one."
Purchase - don’t rent
Most men go the rent-a-tux route. And we wouldn’t totally blame you for it either, considering that you probably plan on wearing the darn thing for just a few hours. But this isn’t your high school prom. So you can scrounge for your scrapbook or take our word for it: rented suits never fit properly and always look cheap. Not to mention the fact that someone else (in fact, many someone elses) wore it on their special day. Break the mold and buy.Quit the corporate culture
You should look like you’re getting married, not giving a PowerPoint presentation. Suiting up in something new rather than a rental or boardroom leftover is a first step, but it’s far from the only thing that will keep you out of the office. Go black, three piece, and shell out somewhat more than you may be used to. We guarantee it’ll pay off.Say something with the fit
You may be tempted to break out the bells and whistles. This day, after all, is only supposed to come around once. But despite your best instincts, your energy and hard earned money is better spent on tailoring. An inexpensive but impeccably cut suit will look like a million bucks. The same can’t be said for a pricey, ill-fitting one.Form follows fabric
A tailor’s nip and tuck can only go so far. Without a fine fabric to lay the foundation, it’s tough to construct a winning wedding suit. A slouchy, shapeless blend will leave you looking, well, slouchy and shapeless. A weighty wool, on the other hand, will do just the opposite.Ditch the vest
Sure, it’s the easiest way to switch up a three piece, and you’ll gain a new weekday work suit in the process. We just recommend reserving it for special days when you need to play boss and bust balls. Pair it with a red, purple or light-blue knit tie from Drake’s London. The knit will lighten up the mood, but it’s really the color that counts. Remember: The suit is already black, and you don’t want to look like you’re going to a wedding again, or worse, a funeral.
Add the vest
Jerry-rig the jacket
Fly the trousers solo
Using the trousers with your regular run-of-the-mill button down for business-casual climes is fine by us. But you could really stretch your investment by pairing the pants with a crisp, un-tucked polo (we’re partial to this three-button pima pique from Theory) and some cool kicks like Tods’ iconic driver in red suede. In the end, all eyes will definitely be on her dress. But there’s no harm in stealing a few glances for yourself on that day and those blissful years beyond.

Another summer means another three months of work shirts drenched in sweat, awkward man sandals and hibiscus-print shirts fit for Boca Raton, right? Nope, not this year. What if there was a way to strip down your summer wardrobe to, say, 10 things that pretty much always look great? There is, and we enlisted our fashion editor, Sachin Bhola, and Tyler Thoreson, VP of Editorial and Creative for Gilt MAN and Park & Bond, to guide our way. Here's what they had to say about summer essentials for men. Take notes, junior.
Sachin: “Picture this: A man walks into the subway. It’s rush hour. He reaches for the pole, and you spot a dark, almost-perfect circle stain under his arm. Don’t be that guy. Substitute your wool blazer for lightweight ones in warmer months, like this linen one. What I like about a linen blazer is that it travels well and has an undone vibe to it, which is a big part of my style.”

Look closely at these shoes and you’ll see shark teeth, gills and a predatory profile that work together to keep you moving. Offered in silver, black and blue with contrasting soles and side stripes, the Reebok ZigTech Shark sets a new benchmark for stylish running shoes that don’t sacrifice comfort or performance.
The Reebok ZigTech Shark mimics the toughest and most aggressive attributes of the ocean predator to help you attack the competition. The sole is comprised of Zigs with enhanced rubber angled backward at 20 degrees, enabling the shoe to take heavy vertical and horizontal impacts and grip the road. It also lets you flex your foot. The six slits on the side of the shoe mimic the gills of a shark. The shape of the sole is angled back like the teeth of a shark. And, just like a shark’s mouth full of teeth, the Zigs feel smooth from the front to the back, but your fingers and the road will catch when moving from the back to the front. This is a cool design touch, but it also makes the shoes fast, as they help propel you forward.
Running is about the pursuit of personal excellence. Your running shoe should help you in this endeavor. And if it happens to be stylish and fast, then you’ve found the perfect shoe. The ZigTech line from Reebok continues to be the coolest and most competitive-looking running shoe line for men. The attention to design details, thoughtful construction, color options and unparalleled comfort help make the new ZigTech Shark an unbeatable option for the modern runner ready to devour the competition. But if you only wear them to run a few errands, we won’t tell.

Q: What are the rules for wearing shorts to a chic-casual office?
A: There are two rules when it comes to getting away with wearing shorts at the office and still maintaining a professional appearance. The first is to keep your look tailored. That means the shorts should skim over your body and cargo shorts, jean shorts or anything baggy is out. The second rule is to eschew printed shorts (those are for vacation or golfing), favoring solid-colored shorts in quality fabrics like cotton and linen instead. These flat-front cotton twill shorts exemplify both of these rules.
Q: I read in your article on how to make the most of your face is to use fashion to complement your eyes. As someone with brown eyes, how would I do that?
A: The colors that will best complement your eyes are also dependent on your hair color. Without knowing what color your locks are, it’s safe to say that deep-forest greens and bright blues will make your brown eyes stand out. If you have an adventurous fashion sense, experiment with red and purple. Finally, avoid placing sandy colors like tan or beige near your face as they could wash you out.
Q: What’s the best way to create a V-shape in your upper half without having to wear a blazer? (It’s summer after all.)
A: Beat the heat, get the same tailored look as a blazer and create the V-shaped physique you desire by swapping out your heavy topper for a vest. To go further in building a V-shape using your clothing, pair a smart vest like this one with either a simple V-neck T-shirt or a dress shirt with a button or two undone. Bonus: A vest is a piece that will work around the clock for you in the summer as you can wear it to the office and then out for cocktails or on a date.
Q: When should you be wearing a "squarer" pocket square versus one that is fluffed up?
Folding your pocket square into a square will give your ensemble a cleaner, more streamlined look, which makes this shape appropriate for conservative offices and occasions for which a smart suit like this one is required. Fluffing up your pocket square, in contrast, will give your outfit a flashier edge so save those designs for an appearance at a hip nightclub rather than an appearance in court to battle a traffic ticket.
